Period properties can have undergone many generations of alteration. Extensions, loft conversions, internal reconfiguration, replacement roofs, changes to windows and historic repairs can all affect how a building performs today.

Converted houses and mansion blocks introduce different considerations, including shared roofs, common parts, alterations between flats and responsibility for maintaining different elements of the building.

Further from central London, large areas of interwar and later suburban housing introduce another range of considerations, including ageing roof coverings, drainage, extensions, ground movement, dampness and previous alterations.

A survey should therefore consider the individual property rather than simply its age or appearance. Our role is to identify significant defects, explain their likely implications and help buyers understand where further investigation or repair may be appropriate.
